The collective of defenders of Lyon and Greater Lyon unveiled this Thursday morning the results of its citizen consultation launched on October 31. Unsurprisingly, the people interviewed are critical of the urban developments and projects implemented by the Lyon Metropolis.
It's on the floor of café 203, in the city center of Lyon, and a little more than two months after the launch of its “independent citizen consultation“, that the collective of defenders of Lyon and Greater Lyon unveiled this Thursday, January 23, the results of this consultation which aimed to “collect the opinions of residents and local economic players in a neutral and objective manner“according to the collective, supported by several right-wing political figures and in open war with the Ecologists of the City and Metropolis of Lyon. A consultation launched”faced with the attitude of total contempt of the mayor of Lyon and the president of the Métropole de Lyon” explains the collective during a press conference during which the members of the “citizen and apolitical gathering” presented in detail the figures from their citizen survey.
Unsurprisingly, the results of the survey which collected nearly 3,500 responses, “more than all the official surveys carried out by the Métropole de Lyon on the same subjects and over much longer periods“, draw up a very negative assessment of urban developments in Lyon and the metropolis.
“An anti-car ideological vision, without pragmatism“
“The results highlight a massive global rejection of current urban developments and a strong demand for revision” thus details the collective. “closure of the peninsula“, the collective's workhorse since its creation, thus received 70% unfavorable opinions from the 3,394 respondents, 75% of whom are residents of the Metropolis and 25% professionals. Only the “narrowing of the tracks on the banks of the Rhône” is unanimously against him, with 78% of unfavorable opinions against him. The extension of the low-emission zone (ZFE) receives 61% of unfavorable opinions and the narrowing of rue Servient 64%.

Of the 12 projects selected, ranging from the development of the Route de Genas to the one-way passage of Avenue Félix Faure through the closure of the rise of Chemin Neuf, none obtained a majority of favorable opinions. “Many perceive the changes as imposed by an anti-car ideological vision, without pragmatism” also charges the collective.
-“The car and the motorist have become the enemies of the politicians in place“deplores Christophe Cédat, owner of café 203 and member of the collective, also denouncing”an anarchic public transport offer in the Lyon Metropolis.“
“Weighing in view of 2026”
“Respondents denounce the effects on traffic flow, accessibility, quality of life and attendance at local businesses“, continues the collective, explaining that “more than half of respondents say they use the car as their main mode of travel“. Which would illustrate, according to them, “an insufficiency of the alternatives proposed“.
Faced with this observation, the collective of Lyon defenders are calling “to mobilization to rethink urban planning“His petition, launched when the collective was created and still accessible online, has already collected more than 13,000 signatures.”Faced with these clear results, we want people to listen to us” urges Christophe Marguin, member of the apolitical collective and declared candidate on the right for the 2026 municipal elections. “Today it is not possible to discuss with the City and the Metropolis” he continues.
The collective thus calls for “a mobilization of civil society and major business leaders or decision-makers from Lyon and major Lyon residents to weigh in with a view to 2026.“
