By way of a press release, the Rideau Vert indicated that the two women had decided to leave their positions at the same time “in a desire to breathe new energy while respecting the heritage for which the Theater is renowned”.

Denise Filiatreault will become godmother of the Rideau Vert, founded in 1948 by Mercedes Palomino and Yvette Brind’Amour, making it the oldest French-speaking theater company in America. As artistic director, the legendary director, who will celebrate her 94th birthday in May, will have contributed to renewing the theater’s programming. It is to her, among others, that we owe the implementation in 2005 of Review and Correction, the end-of-year review of the Rideau Vert which has been very successful every year since.

Le Rideau Vert saluted an icon of Quebec theater, who embodies “herself a part of the history of culture and arts in Quebec”.

“Thanks to her commitment and determination, Denise Filiatrault has allowed the Théâtre du Rideau Vert to remain an essential reference in Quebec theater and to shine more than ever. By naming her godmother, we wish not only to recognize her immense contribution, but also to keep her close to us, in the Rideau Vert family,” declared the president of the board of directors, Sylvie Cordeau.
