Disability: vibrating vests to feel the music at the Silvia Monfort Theater

When music becomes palpable

Today, the Silvia Monfort Theater takes a new step by giving deaf and hard of hearing people the opportunity to experience the sound dimension of shows. For this, she will rely on inclusive vibrating vests developed over the past few years by the Ile-de- company TiMMPi. These vests have been successfully tested at music festivals. Directly linked to management, they retransmit sounds and musical variations in the form of vibrations perceived by the body.

« We want to make music accessible to everyone, confides Ninon Leclère. The idea is that everyone can feel the sounds, the rhythms and experience the show differently ».

To thrill all audiences

Acquired thanks to the Region’s participatory disability budget, 5 vests will be made available to the public this year. The theater reception team will be trained to accompany spectators to test the system. “ It’s an expensive technology, concedes Ninon Leclère. But thanks to this grant, we will be able to offer it throughout the season, as soon as a sound universe inhabits the stage. »

Hearing people will also have the opportunity to try this technology to better understand the reality of disability and the importance of accessibility.. In the eyes of theater management, these vests can provide momentum for inclusion in the cultural landscape. Because they remind us that art can reach all audiences.
