Is there life after boys or girls bands? If Harry Styles managed to escape through the front door of One Direction, how many failed solo careers after years of camaraderie – sometimes a facade – within vocal groups led by producers most often sacrificing artistic demands on the altar of profitability? The Spice Girls were five, but none, for example, established themselves in the long term once the group dissolved.
If we had to keep only one example of a successful solo adventure, we would cite, to stay in Great Britain, that of Robbie Williams, member of Take That in the first half of the 1990s, then author of a dozen albums under his name. But who, really, is this Robert Peter Williams, as he was born in 1974 in Stoke-on-Trent? Better Mana biopic by Michael Gracey, an Australian director who created a bombastic musical (The Greatest Showman2017) and a documentary on the singer Pink (All I Know So Far2021), answers this question today by retracing the destiny of the interpreter ofAngels.
