the essential
The 12th edition of the Art Film Meetings opens this Thursday, January 23, for four days of screenings at the Le Régent cinema in Saint-Gaudens. On the program: films of course, a new concept “En echo” which gives carte blanche to another invited festival, a photo exhibition and for the first time, an awards ceremony “like no other”…
It’s an event that brings together fans of cinema and art in all its forms – painting, music, dance, architecture, poetry… it’s up to you to choose your genre and your film. The Art Film Meetings (RFA) are back for a 12th edition in Saint-Gaudens, from Thursday January 23 to Sunday January 26. Launched by the team from the independent cinema Le Régent, this festival claims to be a “quality cultural event in a rural environment”. And it has what it takes: in a few years, the film on art has found its audience in Comminges, with nearly 7,000 admissions last year, not counting school screenings.

This new edition promises to be just as happy. “We have never had so many reservations in advance,” rejoices Thomas Miquel, the director of Le Régent. Since March, the Rencontres have entered a new era by integrating the international network “Films on art network” during a visit to the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) in Montreal.

Saint-Gaudens art film meetings: jury, prizes, international partnership… what’s changing this year
A partnership that the Saint-Gaudinoise team wanted to highlight by creating a brand new concept called “En echo”. The idea: invite another festival within the festival, in this case, the International Days of Film on Art (JIFA) at the Louvre. For the opening evening, Pascale Raynaud, director of JIFA, chose to present the work of François Catonné, director of photography and director of films about artists. It shows the behind the scenes of a work of art and the mechanism of inspiration.
The city to the rhythm of the festival
Also new this year, awards will be awarded by Pascale Raynaud. So far without competition, apart from the traditional “Corridor Noise”, the Saint-Gaudinois festival is having an awards ceremony for the first time. But be careful, to respect the spirit of sharing of the Meetings, this last one will be “not like the others”… You will have to come to the Bistrot du Régent on Sunday at 11:45 a.m. to find out more.

Beyond the cinema, the entire town of Saint-Gaudens will live to the rhythm of the festival for four days. The Museum of Arts & Figures will open its doors from Thursday to Sunday with guided tours every afternoon and a “Quite a Cinema” workshop on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. More broadly, partnerships with the tourist office, Haute-Garonne Tourisme or even the traders’ association will make it possible to highlight the entire region.
