the essential
Members of the cultural association participate in various workshops throughout the year. Each session inspires them with new creations to discover until Friday, January 31 in the hall of town hall.
“We had to show everyone that Friends of the Petiet Museum is not a group of little ladies who talk nicely.” Friday January 18, when it was time to inaugurate the exhibition in the hall of Limoux town hall, Ghislaine Abadie did not hide her pride in the quality of the works presented.
And those who take a look before the closing, Friday January 31, will not be able to prove him wrong. In the hall of the town hall as in the consuls’ room, the visitor cannot help but be overcome with emotion in front of a field of poppies, the mischievous face of Dali, or even a larger-than-life watercolor of the Porch of Mercy. The texts recounting the association’s cultural expeditions or inspired by the masterpieces of Klimt, Chagall and Van Gogh invite you to take your time.
The legacy of Marie Petiet
“I am delighted to welcome to the Maison des Limouxins an exhibition like this which shows the artistic work carried out in the heart of our territory, greeted the mayor of the town, Pierre Durand. The Friends of Mercy association is strongly involved in preserving the legacy of Marie Petiet.
-Insisting on “the flawless support of David Fernandez”director of cultural affairs for the City, Ghislaine Abadie recalled that the Limoux artist had expressed the wish “that his house become a museum and an art school upon his death”. Freshly restored, the museum welcomed 3,000 visitors in 2024, a figure “increasing” according to Pierre Durand.
Quality teachers
As for the teaching aspect, numerous workshops and conferences are regularly organized there. The friends of the museum, for their part, decided to surround themselves with qualified teachers to lead their workshops. “They must have advanced degrees or have won awards in several exhibitions”underlines the president.
Oksana Durand-Bordoninovskaia strives to pass on her watercolor practice while Laurence Cucchiarini runs drawing workshops for young people and adults. Martine Madelaine-Richard is in charge of the pastels, Raphaëlle Poiraud the writing and Colette manages the cultural outings. An oil painting workshop led by Mireille Fourmont awaits its first participants, and the History of Painting course is a great success thanks to the professionalism of Marie-Laure Ruiz Maugis, a graduate of the École du Louvre.
