Definitely, a bad week in the golden paradise of Montecito. After the postponement of the launch of Meghan’s new Netflix series last week, due to destructive fires in Los Angeles, then a few bursts of mocking comments on social networks, the Duke and Duchess saw their weekend punctuated by the publication of ‘an article to their credit in Vanity Fair.

A laudatory article? It could have. Except that this kilometric investigation, signed by journalist Anna Peele, turns out to be cataclysmic for the Californian couple.

“Things are not easy for them at the moment. Vanity Fair managed to make this difficult time even worse”

A friend of the couple, in the Daily Beast

But what does this investigation by the American magazine, in which they also refused to participate, tell us, in essence?

The result of several months of research and interviews with dozens of people who worked and lived alongside the Sussexes, the article first returns to the diverse and varied professional projects that the two aspiring entrepreneurs have embarked on. A true way of the cross, as the author writes:

“Going from God-chosen members of a 1,200-year-old institution to start-up founders in exile is a difficult change”

Vanity Fair

We will learn in particular that the process of developing their podcast was “a real challenge” and that, although there was no shortage of ideas, they were rarely brought to fruition. Even often rather lame.

Like this proposal from Prince Harry to interview powerful men with complicated experiences and backgrounds (whom he describes as “bad guys”), such as Mark Zuckerberg, Vladimir Putin or Donald Trump – to talk about their childhood. In two words? A “sociopathic podcast”, sums up a person from the world of media in Vanity Fair.

“I had a very serious childhood trauma. Obviously. My mother was murdered. What stopped me from being one of those bad guys?”

We also discover that the prince was offered the idea of testing a new hot chocolate each week while chatting with a friend – an idea considered and rejected – or of “repairing” a new object in each episode, ranging from flat tire due to global warming.

isolated Harry, tyrannical Meghan

The article also portrays Prince Harry as kind and polite, but definitely unfit for real life and “socially isolated” beyond his family. A man who did not make “many friends”, according to what Meghan even said about her husband to those around them.

“I think Harry doesn’t know what he wants because he grew up in a fishbowl, and so he doesn’t really know what real life is.”

A person who worked on media projects with the couple

“He probably wants to be left alone and be able to go kiss babies once in a while, without having to worry about money. I don’t think he wants to be famous like Meghan wants to be,” continues the former collaborator.

The Duchess of Sussex also takes her position, portrayed as a boss with tyrannical inclinations. According to several people interviewed, Meghan’s relationships with her employees tended to follow a “familiar pattern.” “Warm and expansive” at first, before becoming “cold and reserved” when things “went wrong” – often because of her own demands.

“It was really, really, really horrible. Very painful”

A former employee of the couple, Vanity Fair

To the point that many confide in having undergone long-term therapy after stopping working with Meghan. An employee says, for example, that she initially did not believe the rumors dating from her time in the British royal family, when the tabloids reported that Meghan was “harassing” palace advisors – before changing her mind. “Oh, that would happen any Tuesday,” she sighs.

Resurgence of divorce rumors

And Vanity Fair insists on the fact that Harry and Meghan are, according to all those interviewed in the article, “deeply in love”, an anecdote did not fail to catch the eye of the celebrity press, which relayed it throughout throughout the weekend.

The article in fact returns to a “rumor” that occurred a few years ago “in the book world”, about “another potential project” for Meghan: a post-divorce book with Harry. A concept that obviously never came to fruition and for which there would never be any written or formal proposal – much less a manuscript produced.

“If this is true to a certain extent, it is she who would have been approached and not the other way around”

A “well-informed” source of Vanity Fair

However, it was enough to add fuel to the still lukewarm ashes of marital troubles among the Sussexes. Which must, definitely, be having a very bad week.
