The Sotheby’s auction house, in charge of the dispersal of the designer’s estate, is organizing its final sale dedicated to the designer. From January 21 to 31, 250 objects that belonged to Karl Lagerfeld will be offered at auction.
“Intimate fragments” of the Kaiser available for sale
Sketches, crockery, clothes and even MP3s… The final auction dedicated to the designer who died in 2019 is a real immersed in his intimate universe. In total, Sotheby’s is offering nearly 250 personal items for sale: “the unique opportunity to explore a selection of drawings, sketches, personal effects and clothing, so many intimate fragments of the man behind the myth and the image, and to enter one last time into the universe of a exceptional spirit”details Sotheby’s.
The auction house has been in charge of the designer’s estate since 2021. It has already organized four other sales in Paris, Monaco and Cologne which were very successful: estimated at 4 million euros, they ultimately brought in 22.5 million euros.
-The sale will be available online from January 21. The most curious can come and discover all of the pieces at Sotheby’s Parisian premises, open to the public free of charge from January 24 to 31.
Last March, the Kaiser’s Parisian apartment was available for sale: three-room apartments with a breathtaking view of the Seine of more than 260 square meters, including 50 devoted to the dressing room. An exceptional transaction orchestrated by the Althemis notary office which estimated the initial investment at 5.3 million euros. Finally the designer’s final residence was sold ten million euros.
Proof that despite his death, the popularity of the designer is still immense. A fascination that we find in the world of cinema and television: numerous documentaries and series have been released about it in recent months. Disney+ has chosen fiction with Becoming Karl Lagerfeld, a series unveiled last June which looks back on the beginnings of the fashion designer, played by the German actor Daniel Brühl. The same year, Canal+ broadcast Karl Lagerfeld, Revelation, a documentary in four episodes exploring the highlights of the career of the Kaiser of fashion.
