A relative lifts the veil on the rapper’s sudden death

The American rapper, known for the hit “Be Faithful,” died Saturday at the age of 53. No cause of death has been officially released.

American rapper Fatman Scoop died suddenly on Saturday at the age of 53 after collapsing on stage during a concert the previous evening.

While no cause of death has been officially released, a close friend, Sharron Elkabas, his spokesperson, has shed some light on what could have contributed to his sudden disappearance.

“He had an energy drink before he went on stage. He never drank energy drinks but he did before the concert,” she lamented to the Hollywood Reporter, without elaborating.

Known for his pieces Be Faithful et It Takes Scoopthe rapper was performing in Hamden, Connecticut, when he collapsed onstage Friday night.

Paramedics performed CPR while he was still on stage. The rapper was then rushed to hospital, where doctors were unable to resuscitate him.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Issac Freeman,” his manager Birch Michael wrote on Instagram. “You taught me how to be the man I am today. I love you Scoop. Thank you so much for everything you gave me.”

“Huge impact”

Hip-hop queen Missy Elliott paid tribute to Fatman Scoop, writing on X that the artist’s “voice and energy” had “contributed to many songs that have made people happy and want to dance for over two decades.”

“Your impact is HUGE and will NEVER be forgotten,” she added.

Fatman Scoop had notably collaborated with Missy Elliott on Lose Control and also Mariah Carey on It’s Like That. It is set to appear on A$AP Rocky’s upcoming album, Don’t Be Dumbalongside Morrissey, Busta Rhymes, Flavor Flav and Slick Rick.
