Richard Orlinski, the artist of the trophy, “a work of art” for the winners

A giant red gorilla with angular shapes carrying the golden shield of the Alpe d’Huez Festival is the trademark of this event where laughter is king. Its author is Richard Orlinski, a multi-talented contemporary artist known throughout the world. “It was Valérie Damidot who introduced me to the festival organizers,” he explains to 20 Minutes. I found the idea wonderful because we don’t often pay attention to the aesthetics of trophies which are sometimes unappealing pieces of plastic.”

The animal called “Wild Kong” is made of epoxy and comes in several cheerfully bright colors that all the winners win. “I immediately thought of the gorilla as a symbol because all men would like to be King Kong, a super-powerful monster with a big heart, but without the hair. My gorilla is shaved to look more beautiful,” he explains.

A work of art for the winners

All winners are awarded a work by Richard Orlinski with a value ranging from 25,000 euros to 35,000 euros. This year, actress Hélène Vincent even received two: for her entire career and for the very moving It’s ira by Enya Baroux. “The winners leave with a work of art, which is nice all the same,” explains Richard Orlinski. Not only are they celebrated for their excellence, but they receive a beautiful object that they can be proud to display in their home.”

In many areas

Richard Orlinski creates trophies for gastronomic, cultural and sporting events such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix for example at Castellet, the W9 d’or for music, for the Bocuse d’or. He could see himself collaborating with other film festivals. He is already approaching the 7th art for an ambitious project, an animated film based on his statues.

“It’s the story of a little 12-year-old boy who lost his parents, who takes refuge in somewhat virtual worlds where my magical animals are there to bring him back,” he confides. It will address themes that resonate with me, such as sharing and protecting nature.” The film is expected to hit theaters in 2026.

Richard Orlinski still finds the time to continue his participation in Big Heads on RTL, a show that he prepares by reading 20 Minutes. “The journal allows me to cultivate myself a little to answer questions,” he says. This is a rich idea that we encourage him to pursue.
