The young rapper Nabashu performs live this evening at the Théâtre de Verdure of the French Institute in Dakar. After the release of his first ten-track album entitled “Nabastyle”, last November, Nabashu, originally from Mbirkilane, in the Kaffrine region, will take the plunge.
After marking the Senegalese hip-hop scene with her album “Nabastyle” last November, rapper Nabashu is preparing to take a new step. A native of Mbirkilane, and having grown up in Kaffrine, she will perform, for the first time, at the Théâtre de Verdure Gilles Obringer of the Léopold Sédar Senghor French Institute this Saturday, January 18. An evening that kept all its promises for this young artist with a striking and innovative style.
With her fast and staccato voice, Nabashu has established herself as the queen of “Fast Style” in Senegal, a genre popularized by figures such as Busta Rhymes and Eminem. The album “Nabastyle” reflects his multiple influences: modernity, traditional rhythms and a nod to his Hal-Pulaar origins. This is how titles like “Thiossane”, “Nay Todji” or even “Migration” which appear in this album illustrate this diversity. Since his debut in 2016 with his title “The New Master” with the help of his brother Kheuss, through the success of Dangerous Girl and his collaboration with Ada Knibal, Nabashu has been able to carve out his path with determination in a very macho environment.
Since then, the rapper artist has taken off by winning several distinctions including two at the “Only Woman Challenge” as Revelation of the Year 2021 and the Best Free Style award. Shortly thereafter, she became a “prophetess” at home by being crowned artist of the year by the “Kaffrine Jambars Awards”. Supervised by the “Premiers Pas” label, Nabashu, who has earned her stripes as a distinguished rapper, collaborates with big names in Senegalese hip-hop like Xuman, Fatym Sy, Fou Malade, Duggy Tee, Simon, Fata, OMG, Diksa, E. Jazz, Julio l’Absolu and many others.
-This is how she plans to promote her album during a European tour in France, Italy and Belgium next March. With her film career, notably in the series “Impuissants” produced by Even Prod, the rapper continues to juggle musical stages and film sets. This evening, Nabashu, with his album Nabastyle which offers a subtle blend of modern and traditional sounds, pushed the limits of creativity at the French Institute. A rising star to follow closely.
