Firstly by the originality of his creation, notably because “it’s not a bolero, more a waltz”, he laughs. As the famous bolero is based on the same theme repeated tirelessly, Ibrahim Maalouf chose to make reference to it by playing the same melody six times, in as many variations.
And the musicians of the orchestra were largely integrated into each of the scenes: the first was played by Ibrahim Maalouf on the trumpet and the pianist, the second by the brass and woodwinds of the orchestra, the third by Ibrahim Maalouf and the violins, and so on until the dazzling finale played by everyone. The velvety sound of Ibrahim Maalouf’s playing, the subtlety of his interpretation, joined the virtuosity of the orchestra to touch the audience’s heart.
