THE media libraries et libraries network in Grand Cahors offer numerous animations for this first quarter 2025between Reading Night, Poets’ Spring, author meetings or screenings of short films. See you on January 23, 2025 with Reading Nights.

2024 assessment of the media libraries of Grand Cahors

2024 was a rich and intense year, with 600 people welcomed to the Nuits de la lecture in January, 400 to the poetic exchanges of Dominique Maes during the Spring of Poets in March, 500 to the short film festival in March within the network, 420 at the “Bib’en Jeu” game festival in Cahors, and 720 spectators at the documentary film month, in November across the entire network of media libraries, libraries and reading point in Grand Cahors.

In view of this attendance, during the 5 highlights of the year, Sophie Alaux, the deputy director of the Media Library of Grand Cahors, declares herself satisfied, as does her team. Loans of books, magazines, works, CDs, DVDs, e-readers, books read, etc. were at a good level.

The entire team at the Grand Cahors media centers and libraries is planning an equally intense year for 2025.

Reading night from January 23 to 26, 2025

The first event will be the Reading Nights, from January 23 to 26, 2025, on the theme of heritage, in connection with libraries.

Thursday January 23, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., only by registration on 05 65 23 14 44 ([email protected]), you can visit, free of charge, the Heritage and Research Library, and attend readings by Mehdi Aît-Ali, who will read heritage works by lantern. The site, closed until 1is April, will exceptionally reopen its doors for the occasion.

Reading Nights will continue on Friday January 24 at the Montat library, with an introduction to traditional dances by Jean-Luc Laviale at 6:30 p.m., and an introduction to calligraphy at 7:30 p.m., where Sophie Talou will teach you how to writing like at school in the 1960s, and at 8:30 p.m. a meeting with accordionist Antoine Errotabera, before a concert in duet with Emilie Cadiou. To end the evening, at 9:30 p.m., the municipality of Montat will offer a snack.

On Saturday January 25, from 11 a.m., Reading Night begins at the Grand Cahors Media Library with a story time, where toddlers aged 0 to 6 are invited to come in disguise, to listen to stories at era of princesses and castles. Then creative workshop using discarded books from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., from 12 years old, upon registration at 05 65 24 13 44. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., every 30 minutes, “who killed Blanche” riddle -Snow ? ”, as part of “the courtyard of tales”. From 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., in the entertainment room, drama students from the Conservatoire du Grand Cahors will perform Feydeau, Corneille, Racine… the big names of our literary and theatrical heritage. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with territorial board games, you can play on heritage (Grand Quercy, Pont Valentré, , etc.). In the entertainment room, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., upon registration, Emmanuel Costa Sédille, publication director of the magazine “Le Rouge et le blanc”, and Lotois winegrowers Lydie and Claude Bourguignon, will host a conference on their domain of Laroque d’Antan, on the white wine that they will make you taste (in moderation). For those who wish, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., a small paid meal will be provided on 2e floor. Then from 8:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., you will be transported on a dreamlike journey “Perit le soleil”, a drawn, theatrical and musical reading, adapted from the comic strip by Damien Cuvillier on Rimbaud “Thief of fire”, with François Tison at the double bass and the exhibition of the original drawings of the comic strip. This Cadurcian Reading Night will end, from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with a trad concert-ball with the duo “la Dériveuse”, in partnership with the Docks and the association “Prêts? This January 25, 2025, Reading Night will also take place at the Pradines Media Library, at 10 a.m., with a meeting with Hélène Huillet.

The 2025 Reading Nights, within Grand Cahors, will end on Sunday January 26, at the Pontcirq library, in the community hall, where you can draw a gariotte (from 3 years old), from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. h 30. This afternoon, an exhibition of old agricultural, wine-growing and butter-making tools will be held. The church and the bread oven will be exceptionally open, in conjunction with the Pontcirq Heritage Association.

On Thursday February 13, at 2 p.m., the Heritage Research Library relocates to Labastide-Marnhac, for a presentation of Diderot’s encyclopedia.

On February 21, at 6 p.m., Magyd Cherfi, author of “The Life of My Mother!” » released in 2024, or “My part of Gaulish” in 2016, will exchange with the public, present his works, before a signing session.

Spring of Poets

The 27the Printemps des Poètes will be launched, at the Médiathèque du Grand Cahors, in Cahors, on Friday March 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., where the poet and author Odile Steffan-Guillaume, who has just released the poetry “Le kiss of the elephant” (ed “l’art en face”). This meeting will be followed by a signing session.

Still as part of the Spring of Poets, on Saturday March 22, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Pradines Media Library, the poet Medhi Aït-Ali will come and present his collections “Voyage far et haute” (2021) and “Appaître » (2023). In the afternoon, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., in Pradines, a “paper poetry” workshop will be organized (from 8 years old).

For the first time, an event will be held around the grain library of the Médiathèque du Grand Cahors, on Wednesday March 12 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., with cutting and gluing around the seeds (from 8 years old).

Exchanges around astronomy, in partnership with the Gigouzac Astronomy Club and Carrefour des Sciences et des Arts, will continue. On Friday March 14, at the Grand Cahors Media Library, Jean Ripert will host a conference on the contribution of women to astronomy. On Friday April 11, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the Pradines Media Library, Bernard Deleris will teach you more about celestial dust.

Short films

The short film festival will take place on Wednesday March 19, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Pradines Media Library, on Thursday March 20, from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Mercuès Media Library, with a selection of 5 short films for children (from 3 years old, like the day before, in Pradines), Friday March 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. 30 p.m., at the Flottes village hall, with short films for all audiences (from 14 years old), before an aperitif dinner (€5, upon registration only at 05 65 53 26 23, or at the address [email protected]), and on Saturday March 22, at the Grand Cahors Media Library, with short films for children, in the morning (“Under the sky, the earth” 5 short films on Nature, by the French Institute, at 10 a.m. 30, and “Who eats what?” at 11 a.m.) and for all audiences, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. (“At the top of the bill”, 5 short films accessible from 12 p.m. at 2:30 p.m., then “Thinking about humanity” 4 short films for those over 14 at 4 p.m., and “Good in my skin” at 5 p.m. for those over 10).

Other libraries and media libraries in Grand Cahors could participate in this short film festival.

Openness to games

The Grand Cahors Media Library is also open to games. The Cahors billiard club runs introductory workshops on Saturday March 15, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., as well as on Saturday April 26. You can also try your hand at chess on Saturday, April 12, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Grand Cahors Media Library is participating, in its own way, in the restoration of the Pont Valentré. From Saturday April 12, it will be possible to contribute to a 2,000-piece puzzle on the Bridge. In July and August, a quiz will be organized on the famous Pont Valentré.

All these events are free, and open to everyone, whether subscribed or not.

This year 2025, within the network of media libraries and libraries of Grand Cahors, sees its share of new features. After Cahors and Pradines, little ones, from 0 to 6 years old, will also be entitled to their story time, at the Mercuès media library, every Wednesday, from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (after the meeting, dedicated to 6-10 years old, around storytelling, from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.).

Since January 4, on a monthly basis, the Pontcirq library has had its “story time” (from 3 years old). The next meetings will be on Saturdays February 1, March 1, April 5, May 3 and 31, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

As of April 2025, the 3e floor of the Grand Cahors Media Library, dedicated to , will host vinyl records, available for loan. You will be able to consult them, using the turntables provided. For the inauguration of this new space on April 19, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., DJ Val Monster will host the Media Library in partnership with the Docks and Magma (Museum of Graphic Arts and Current Music).
