Radio Classique takes you to the Lyon Auditorium for a concert by the Orchester National de Lyon given on December 6 under the direction of its musical director, Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider.
In the first part you will hear Renderinga work by Luciano Berio, composed in 1989 and 1990. It is written from sketches of the Symphony No. 10 the Schubert. « Rendering aims to restore his sketches. It is not a question of completing or reconstructing the work. This restoration is carried out according to the same principle as those of the frescoes which aim to revive the old colors without trying to hide the damage of time” explained Berio using the term “musical cement”.
The second work on the program is the Symphony No. 5 by Mahler. Created in 1904, it was made famous by its adagietto which Visconti used in the film Death in Venice. Mahler also gave this adagietto as a gift to the woman who was to become his wife, Alma.
-A triumphant finale
The Symphony No. 5 by Mahler begins with a Funeral March which ends with a triumphant finale full of joie de vivre. This evening will be presented by Jean-Michel Dhuez. Note that you can listen to it in digital quality in Lyon thanks to DAB +, as well as in a large part of France.
