Japanese television has announced the upcoming anime adaptation of the manga “The Original Sin of Takopi” by Taizan 5, of which more than 1.4 million copies are in circulation worldwide. In France, both volumes have been available from Pika Editions since 2023.
Takopi is an alien resembling a little round, pink octopus, who came straight from the planet Happy to spread joy on earth. The first person to reach out to him is Shizuka, an infinitely sad nine-year-old girl. Takopi’s mission is to make him smile again. But the little alien is far from suspecting the darkness of the environment in which the schoolgirl lives. Takopi’s innocence and good will will gradually lead him into an inextricable situation, until the worst happens.
When it was released in Japan in 2021, “The Original Sin of Takopi” completely shook the manga world, tackling difficult and strong themes such as school bullying, suicide and family violence. In just two volumes, the mangaka Taizan 5 has created a strong, moving and challenging manga, the reading of which rarely leaves one indifferent. The drawing is tortured and sooty, and plunges the reader into the heart of a harsh story with raw and sometimes shocking scenes in which the reactions of the characters are sometimes moving, sometimes unhealthy and confusing.
Shock and essential
Announced in 2024 by the Japanese television channel TBS, the animated series, scheduled to be broadcast this year, promises an experience similar to reading the manga: shocking and essential. The first trailer for the anime was revealed during the Jump Festa 2025 panel – an event dedicated to the fields of animation and manga that takes place every year in Japan. The ENISHIYA animation studio is responsible for adapting the Taizan 5 manga.

In the voice casting are announced Kurumi Mamiya (Leo in “One Piece”) to play Takopi, and Reina Ueda (Yuki in “You Are Ms. Servant”) for the role of Shizuka Kuze. However, no specific release date has yet been announced. So in the meantime, “The original sin of Takopi” can be (re)discovered in its original version.
