Blunt’s betrayal: Elizabeth knew about it

Declassified documents released by the British government on Monday claim that Queen Elizabeth II was unaware that a member of her entourage, Anthony Blunt, was a KGB spy. She knew it perfectly! This is a file that I have followed for decades.

According to documents from MI5, the domestic intelligence service, the queen did not learn of his betrayal until much later. This is a pious untruth to protect the memory of the late queen. Moreover, the documents specify that when she was informed that Blunt was spying for the Soviets, she reacted “very calmly and without showing surprise.”

Blunt was recruited from Cambridge University by Kim Philby into the most notorious Soviet spy ring of the 20th century.e century. The Queen allowed Blunt to retain his position at the heart of the British establishment – curator of the royal collections – out of fear that the family would be tainted if the truth were made public. Anthony Blunt was close to Queen Elizabeth II’s mother, Queen Mary. He was even knighted for his services in 1956 when his treason was known in the palace. This is because Blunt had compromising information on the Windsors.

Hitler et le duc de Windsor

When the Nazi regime collapsed in 1945, he was dispatched to Germany to recover embarrassing documents: letters written by the Duke of Windsor to Hitler and other damning evidence of the Duke’s complicity with the Nazi regime. The Duke and other members of the British royal family of German descent had Nazi sympathies.

Hitler wants to put him back on the throne once Britain is defeated. The contents of the files retrieved by Blunt have never been disclosed. It is believed that they would reveal the existence of much longer and more incriminating intelligences of the duke with the Germans, intelligences which would have even preceded his accession to the throne.

At the request of Buckingham Palace, British counter-espionage buried the affair. In return for his confession, Blunt was granted complete immunity. The royal family and the British authorities hid his betrayal until 1979. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher finally revealed it in the Commons as the media were preparing to do so.

In the minutes following Thatcher’s statement, Elizabeth, with conspicuous hypocrisy, dismisses Blunt from the palace and strips him of his knighthood. Anthony Blunt died in 1983 without having to answer for his crime anywhere other than in the media.

Immunity for the “Royals”

When members or relatives of the royal family are involved in criminal activity, British law enforcement agencies are reluctant to intervene. Saying the matter was not within its jurisdiction, Scotland Yard refused to open an investigation into allegations by a minor, Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was forced into sex with Prince Andrew in London in the Epstein affair in 2001.
