He has lived outside in for 25 years: a documentary tells his life

This Friday, January 17, the screening of the documentary “Jean-Pierre, poet of the street” was stormed. The session is complete. More than 300 people are registered. “The enthusiasm surprised us,” explains Hugo Murtas, journalist who produced this documentary. “A second screening will therefore take place on Sunday January 26, at 11:30 a.m.

still at Arvor. People are curious to discover the life of a figure. »

Jean-Pierre is a well-known homeless person in Rennes. For more than 25 years, this homeless person has taken up residence in the city center. He made his life within a perimeter of a hundred meters, between the checkouts of the Vilaine parking lot, rue de la Monnaie, in the event of demonstrations, and the bottom of rue d’Orléans.

Loaded cart

For several months, most of the time, accompanied by his dog Nougatine, he has been sitting on pallets covered with down, on the Quais de République, at the corner of Rue d’Orléans. Every evening, he packs up his makeshift throne and loads his belongings onto a supermarket cart. He then takes the “highway”, the banks of the canal, and finds his home: a shelter under the piers of a bridge, near the Saint-Martin meadows. “I like to see the ducks passing by,” the person explains poetically.

It was in 2023, while producing a written report, that Hugo Murtas had the idea of making a video documentary on Jean-Pierre. “She is an endearing person who cherishes her freedom,” explains the journalist. Jean-Pierre blackens notebooks with a four-color pencil. He tells his anecdotes and his moods in rhymes. When he speaks, he uses many expressions. What surprised us is that, despite the hardness of his life, he is always positive and optimistic. »

He tells himself

To produce this 18-minute documentary sequenced in three parts, Hugo Murtas worked with Frédéric Le Guennec, a journalist and image reporter. “I let the film run, a bit like the show “Strip-tease” did. I don’t ask questions, it’s Jean-Pierre who tells his truth. »

* The screening on Sunday January 26 will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Arvor. It will cost 4.90 euros, reduced rates with the Sortir card. Part of the proceeds will be donated to Jean-Pierre.
