The inhabitants of Coulommiers have returned to the dark rooms. The Capucins cinema ends the year in style with an attendance record. Indeed, in 2024, the establishment will welcome some 125,000 spectators.
A dazzling success which exceeds all the expectations of Antoine Cabot, the manager. “Before reopening, in December 2023, the site’s record was set at 90,000 entries,” he notes. We would have reached 100,000, I would have already been very happy. I had no doubt of the success that awaited us but not so quickly. »
Post-covid period
Indeed, the post-covid period was marked by the screenwriters’ strike in Hollywood, blocking filming and thus reducing the release of American films. Which, however, did not prevent film buffs from attending French releases since, coincidence, three French films are among the five productions which attracted the most audiences in 2024: A little something extra, The Count of Monte -Cristo and Love phew. Spectators rediscovered French cinema to the delight of exhibitors.
2025: an ambitious year
Antoine Cabot can therefore keep smiling, especially since 2025 promises to be an ambitious year due to a very rich program. Mission Impossible, God save the Tuche, Avatar… the big productions will be there. “And there will be plenty of surprises,” announces the manager.
So, driven by this general craze for the seventh art, we can’t stop Antoine Cabot! This one has no shortage of projects. At the end of January, the cinema will offer a “favorites” week. “It’s about rebroadcasting our ten favorite films from 2024,” he explains.
More daring, during February, the manager of the Capuchins also launched “blind screenings”, a surprise film that the public will discover once in the theater. “These are films classified as arthouse which have been recognized as being of very high quality. For the spectator, you will have to accept the deal of being surprised. »
So, will the Columériens take part in the game? One thing is certain, with the newfound enthusiasm of moviegoers, one question remains in the background… The Capuchins, soon in the running for a César for the most creative theater?
