The municipal crèches of Nîmes vibrate to the rhythm of the Flamenco Festival

Dressed in a dazzling red dress sparkling with small lights, bells delicately attached to the ankles and wearing a rose on her head, Chely La Torito shines like a constellation on the stage of the Simone-Veil center in Valdegour. In front of her, amazed toddlers, from the municipal crèches Eugénie-Cotton, Delon-Soubeyran, les Alisiers, les Grillons and les Amelliers.

This Wednesday, January 15, these Nîmes pitchouns discover floReciKathe new show by the flamenca dancer created especially for them and which integrates the programming of the Off du Festival Flamenco (the festival overseen by the Théâtre de Nîmes and the City runs until January 18). “This is a first for municipal nurseries. It’s about allowing little ones to discover flamenco culture”welcome Aurélie Prohin, Advisor for Nurseries and Early Childhood and Sophie Roulle, Assistant for Culture, present for this first performance.

Almost 15 years after the creation of her very first flamenco show, a show imagined in situ at the Suzanne-Crémieux crèche in , Chely, also known as “Mamzelle Flamenka”, therefore wanted to return to this very young audience for this new creation, convinced more than ever of the importance of flamenco art from a very young age for an opening to the world.

Flamenco touches hearts, awakens memories and softens deep pain. It is a promise of life, joy and renewal. This is the message that I carry with this show.”says the artist who also performs the piece at the Serre-Cavalier gerontology center. “These representations make sense because we explore emotions with the children throughout the year. It is also a great opportunity to promote diversity by welcoming city center crèches to the social center of the Valdegour district”concludes Sandrine Barret Health Coordinator at the Early Childhood Department of the City of Nîmes.
