The video, as surprising as it was impressive, quickly went viral. We see two agents in a supermarket. One, “armed” with a broom, seems to be looking for something hidden in a shelf. He finally grabs it with one hand and pulls. We then see a bushy tail appear and then, obviously, its owner: a large coyote. Who runs away.
The scene was filmed in an Aldi store in Chicago, in the city, on Monday around 9:45 a.m. The animal is a good-sized adult male coyote.
The intruder was then recovered by specialists and taken to an animal care center. An assessment of his health will be carried out even if he seems in great shape, reports the “Chicago Tribune”. He should subsequently be released into a wilder setting. This supermarket-loving coyote did not hurt anyone, it is specified.
Contrary to what one might believe, this is not a first. Coyotes do indeed live in Chicago, although they are usually invisible. “What happens is they are out at night. Most of the time, they do a very good job of avoiding us,” summarized a wildlife specialist in the American newspaper.
Coyotes normally pose no danger to humans. But Chicagoans are advised to avoid contact and be careful with their trash, which can attract them.
