Discover Alain Monnier’s first historical novel, “Other lands than ours”, during a meeting organized by the Chalets and La Librairie association.
The Chalets district association in collaboration with La Librairie is organizing a meeting with Alain Monnier who has already produced around twenty works of varied forms and themes ranging from fables to noir novels and psychological novels. But it was on the occasion of the publication by Privat of his first historical novel “Other lands than ours” that this author came to meet the inhabitants of his Chalets district where he has lived and worked for years.
This work traces the saga of an Italian family far from fascism in France between the wars. These peasants from Veneto are in search of a better life, larger lands, space, but the promises are not always kept and it will take years for dreams and hopes to be reborn in a period where wars, crises and the rise of fascism spare no one. A novel of Italian immigration during the Mussolini years and extending over several decades, this story depicts the story of hundreds of thousands of peasants who came to cultivate hope and lands other than their own, and who are today our compatriots, our neighbors, our parents, our friends. Those who were previously seduced by the narrative inventiveness of the Parpot series will undoubtedly be surprised by the rather classic content of Alain Monnier’s latest novel and will have plenty of time to chat with him during this talk.
