Angélique Angarni-Filopon at the heart of a controversy after a question on “Charlie Hebdo”

“I’m not saying anything.” This sentence from Angélique Angarni-Filopon, Miss France 2025, created controversy. Guest of Sud Radio on January 8, the day after the commemorations of the terrorist attacks against Charlie Hebdo, the young woman preferred not to answer the question “Are you Charlie?”. Likewise, to “do you think in France, we have the right to blasphemy?”, she did not give her opinion.

On January 10, Charlie Hebdo lwho dedicated his drawing of the day entitled “Miss France n’est pas Charlie!”. We see three mullahs brandishing “I am Miss France” signs.

That same day, Angélique Angarni-Filopon decided to clarify things in a press release: “Perhaps it was clumsy but in my role as Miss France, I owe myself neutrality on certain subjects to avoid any misunderstandings and arouse any controversies, she indicated before adding. But I understand that my non-reaction on such a sensitive subject could have sparked so many comments.”

A “duty of reserve”

In an interview given to Parisian This Sunday, January 12, Frédéric Gilbert, president of the Miss France Society, confirms that Miss France must not comment on certain issues. “She was completely caught off guard by this question and went into automatic mode as asked: not expressing yourself as Miss France on political and religious subjects“, he says.

“It’s not because they are comfortable, like Angélique, that they have to give an opinion on everything. There is a duty of reserve“, he insists. “She kicked into touch, and then it happened in a cascade, there was a little awkwardness but which, once again, comes from what we asked of her”, adds- he.

The president of the Miss France Society even expressed his concern about “the safety of Miss France” and regrets a controversy of “unbelievable violence”. The latter adds to the wave of racist and sexist hatred that Angélique Angarni-Filopon has received since her coronation last December. “It takes a lot, it takes a lot since December 14. By typing so hard, it hurts,” denounces Frédéric Gilbert.
