behind the scenes of the show with “24 French electro stars”

DJs Martin Solveig, Kungs, The Avener, but also Ofenbach, Polo & Pan and Pedro Winter will be at the Stade de France on September 8. Romain Pissenem tells us more.

At 46, Romain Pissenem is the man behind the scenes of the biggest electro shows on the planet. The spectacular shows of David Guetta at the Vélodrome in Marseille and Dj Snake at the Stade de France, the electro at the MTV Awards and the NRJ Awards, the biggest European music show, that’s him. For Thierry Reboul, executive producer of the Paris 2024 Games ceremonies and Thomas Jolly, artistic director, calling on this Lorraine native was an obvious choice.

“I have always wanted to bring the energy and festive side of concerts back to theaters. And vice versa, he explains from London where he is based. In 2006, Daft Punk gave their unforgettable concert with the pyramid at the Coachella festival in California. A year later, David Guetta’s global hits like When Love takes it over, Sexy Bitch et Getting over You came out of the clubs and onto the radio. When it came to performing them on stage in front of tens of thousands of spectators, the production of the show became essential.“For someone coming from the theatre, it was now or never.

At the beginning of 2024, he is given a fourfold mission: to create a line-up of 24 French electro stars, to get the audience up and dancing, to create a spectacular, popular show and to tell the story of electro, a field where France has a prominent place internationally. For scheduling reasons, only David Guetta who is playing the same evening in Germany and Dj Snake will be missing.

The evening will start at 8:30 pm with the Paralympic champions entering the stadium, the speeches and all the protocol aspects of the Olympic Games. The show will only start at nightfall, around 9:45 pm. A way to avoid the famous protocol tunnel which inevitably dampens enthusiasm and to have the complete darkness necessary to magnify the work on the lights. “We will capture the energy of the audience by placing them inside the show. The artists have agreed to play only their iconic hits, global successes with hundreds of thousands of clicks on YouTube. You will surely hear Martin Solveig played Hello or Intoxicated. And Cassius takes to the keyboard for their iconic 1999. They know that it is easier to get up and dance when you know the songs. In fact, many will recognize a sound without necessarily having already heard the name of the DJ producer. For the spectacular side, you will see a lot of work on the light. I like the matrices created by the same object multiplied thousands of times. We end up with an almost architectural decor, he said, showing photos of his previous creations where threads of golden light form a huge spider web with perfect angles.

Honor to Jean-Michel Jarre

As Marc Cerrone already had his moment of glory by making the Eiffel Tower dance on July 26, Romain Pissenem was able to give pride of place to Jean-Michel Jarre. It was up to him to open the show and transform the Stade de France into a huge dance floor.Oxygen has Equinoxthe master composed a special medley for the occasion. “He’s full of ideas and works hard. He devotes a lot of time to this show,” emphasizes our producer, impressed to collaborate with his idol, pioneer of electro. His DJ set finished, Jean-Michel Jarre will pass the baton to the other artists. What is called a “back to back” in the jargon of live entertainment.

To represent all the eras of electro and all the generations, Romain Pissenem has divided this “journey through time” into four scenes. First “Energy” with Busy P and Kiddy Smile. Then “Rave” with Agoria, Chloé Caillet, Irène Drésel. Followed by “Radio” with stars known to the general public such as Kungs, Ofenbach and Martin Solveig. And finally, the climax of the evening with a grand finale where the 24 artists will be together for the first time. Not forgetting a surprise or two. See you on Sunday, September 8 at the Stade de France. To say goodbye to the Paris 2024 Games in joy and celebration, there are still a handful of places available.
