For the entire family of ancestral local folklore, this moment of preparation represents the basis of a successful edition of the carnival.
The weather may be uncertain, but the members of the committee were not choosy during the famous making of the entorches this Saturday morning.
In fact, there were well over twenty of them present in the den of the municipal premises at the methodical elaboration of the said entorches.
Attention ! The affair in blanquetière land is taken very seriously and this preparation requires both experience and “carnival” qualification.
In fact, for decades, everyone has known their role and applied themselves to the different stages of manufacturing their emblematic Limoux carnival accessories.
Traditional lighting
The origin of the entorches dates back to the dawn of time when the flames of the latter represented under the arcades, the only lighting in force after dark.
Consequently, an essential element of typically Limoux folklore, this preparation is the occasion for a troop review as a supreme rallying sign before the three shots of the 2025 edition, on Sunday January 26.
Cauldron (almost magical), kraft paper, straw and above all pine resin, the Limoux “panoramix” inventory all its ingredients. While some spread the paper on a metal table, others spread the straw harmoniously.
Then an almost magical moment, the smoking pine resin is extracted from the cauldron; having become liquid it is methodically spread over the entire paper.
Promptly rolled and tied, the entorches, after a necessary passage in a bucket of cold water, are aligned and assembled in festive battle order.
In total, it will take 80 entorches during the almost three months of weekly night outing.
As usual, the Meuniers will open the folk ball on Sunday morning, after a traditional visit to the district sub-prefecture.
Moment during which the sub-prefect should grant the imperative festive discharge to this public and popular festival.
