The mayor brought together the population to present their wishes and announce the achievements made in the town.
It was in front of a packed room that Jean-Claude Torrens, the mayor, addressed his wishes to the population. The ceremony began with the elected representatives of the Municipal Children’s Council who presented the results of their year, in video. The second part of the video focused on the work and developments undertaken by the municipality during the year 2024. “It is with great joy, deep emotion and much happiness that I stand before you today to share this moment of conviviality, exchange and hope, at the start of 2025.”
A little flashback: in 2024, reopening of the church after a year of closure and months of work made necessary with a high risk of the roof collapsing. There was also the development of a city park for young people in the leisure area and the development of a landscaped pond to enhance the site with the renovation of the living spaces.
The development work at the Charles-Renouvier elementary school was also discussed: the old classes and the principal’s house were demolished.
Installation of new cameras
In 2025, work on the school should end, with the construction of new classrooms and the leisure center. In September the new building will be ready and inaugurated, it will improve comfort and learning conditions for students and teachers.
On the security side, the installation of new cameras on sensitive sites, road works to improve traffic and the enhancement of the church by the demolition of the house attached to it are also planned.
A parking lot is planned to replace the two houses located next to the Catalans fountain.
Saint-Nazaire is also a municipal entertainment commission and a large pool of associations which create events throughout the year, without forgetting the cultural activities of the media library.
During the ceremony, the city medal was presented to Nicolas Villarem, volunteer firefighter, who participated in humanitarian work in the department of Mayotte.
In conclusion Jean-Claude Torrens explained that “politics, as I understand it, as we understand it here in Saint-Nazaire, is taking control of our destiny, prioritizing the collective interest, being guarantor of local finances, aware of environmental issues , attentive to everyone. Together, I know, we will succeed. It’s not a wish: it’s a conviction.” The wish session continued with a convivial evening.
