Zagreb’s “HaHaHouse” is the first museum dedicated exclusively to making its visitors laugh, according to its founder, and it opened its doors on January 10, on the occasion of International Laughter Day.

This attraction, which combines humor, art and technology, was designed by a team of national and foreign designers, architects, artists and experts. The museum aims to make visitors of all ages laugh, regardless of their humor preferences.

In the HaHaHouse, fun installations and interactive exhibitions invite visitors to participate and have fun. Before entering, however, they must go through a happiness scanner, followed by disinfection and pre-washing.

“We have every type of washing that currently exists in the world. We have brainwashing, money laundering, while from the third washing room comes the corporate octopus, and if you look further near you can find what is called a portal of happiness which is the centrifuge of life”, explains Andrea Golubić, founder of the museum.

A handmade world in black and white

The Portal of Happiness is actually a spiral slide that takes visitors to the playground of laughter.

There is also a black and white world, the work of a Venezuelan artist. “We worked on the projects for 2 years, and on this piece for about 3-4 weeks, everything was done by hand,” says the artist, Patricio Alejandro Aguero Marino.

Golubić came up with the idea of this project with the aim of bringing joy and cheerfulness back to people in times of stress and fatigue, during the COVID-19 lockdown.

HaHaHouse hopes to contribute to people’s mental health by giving them the opportunity to laugh, relax and connect through everyday situations, thus providing a break from stress and monotonous daily life, the founders emphasize of the museum.

The comic book heroes Mr. H and Koka are the museum’s only guides. In the educational section of the museum, visitors must check which type of humor, among the 20 offered, applies to them.
