Jean Tariech, 22 years old, composer and producer of film music, has one foot in the film industry. With already some achievements to his credit, he intends to continue his career across the Atlantic.
The first musical notes of Christopher Nolan’s brilliant film “Dunkirk” changed Jean’s destiny forever. The Perpignan native, a young pianist already crowned with prizes, was barely 14 years old. The original soundtrack “orchestral and epic” signed by the incomparable Hans Zimmer convinces him of one thing: “Making a career in film music composition.”
Eight years later, this child of the Catalan country, Jean Tariech by his artistic name, can say it: “I am a composer and producer of orchestral music, film music, cinema trailers and music for events.” What’s more, in the cradle of American cinema, in Hollywood, “a neighborhood of which I had posters in my bedroom as a child.”
To continue his journey in Los Angeles, where the news revolves less around the 7th art than the terrible flames which besiege it, the young man, based in Westwood but for the moment in France, is in the process of do everything possible to obtain your artist visa. The key to composing again and again for sports channel Fox Sports and audio production company Alloy Tracks: “My dream is to hear my music in Marvel or Disney trailers.”

He told me I had a future in movie trailers
“What I do is very specialized. That’s why I chose, at 19, to go to the United States to study music for screen.“With fifteen years of classical piano learning at the Perpignan Conservatory where he graduated, national and European prizes, a music baccalaureate, language diplomas and after a year of administrative procedures, Jean Tariech arrives in the city of angels and joined UCLA Extension for two years, part of the University of California. He then obtained an OPT (Optional Practical Training) to work for a year in a company.

“For the sports channels Fox Sports and Big Ten Network, I compose background music for the presentations of basketball and American football matches, the NBA and the NFL in particular. I collaborated with Ciaran Birch, the composer of the trailer for “Avengers: Endgame”. Impressed by my writing style, he told me I had a future in movie trailers. He combined some of my elements with his music for this. movie”shares not without pride the one who also contributed to short films and in 2022 composed the music for the July 14 fireworks in Perpignan, and the telephone on-hold music for the town hall.
“Right now I’m working with audio production company Alloy Tracks. I’ve sent tracks and trailer demos to Marvel, Disney, Pixarsays Jean. I hope to be selected. New Zealand film composer Mark Petrie, my mentor, helped me improve a lot.”
In five seconds we must capture attention
It takes a little and a lot at the same time to hit the heart of the juggernaut of world cinema: “In five seconds, we have to capture attention. And in two minutes, we have to promote a film. We are part of marketing.” For this, the Perpignan artist draws inspiration from modern electro but also from “the power” of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Chopin, and “epic music, recognizable among thousands” by Hans Zimmer and Brian Tyler. For one day, follow in their footsteps and better yet, appear on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
