King Charles III’s former vacation property transformed into spiritual retreat

Some 78 hectares of land, nestled on the outskirts of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, it is this bucolic setting that won over King Charles III and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla after more than forty years of searching for the perfect place in the region. In 2007, then Prince of Wales, he acquired the estate he had always dreamed of, for 1.7 million euros and made it, for a while, his second home: Llwynywermod cottage.

Big spring cleaning

According to the Telegraphupon its acquisition, the Duke of Cornwall began renovations and went there for one or two weeks every year to enjoy the great outdoors, in the greatest discretion. The years pass and the renovations progress. The buildings are restored by local artisans using traditional methods and local materials. And every detail of the house aims to recall the history of the place, the Welsh heritage. Carpets are the best example with a style inspired by the 18th century. The king notably recorded an episode of “The Poet Laureate Has Gone To His Shed”, where they could be seen on the floor of the barn, in August 2021.

In 2022 things change. When his mother died, he took on the role of king and it was William who recovered the domain and titles from Charles. The monarch must then pay rent to the new prince to continue to reside in his residence, which he stops doing in 2023, after terminating his lease. Kate’s husband then decided to rent it out to families or couples looking for relaxation in the Welsh countryside, for 2,770 euros per week.

New tenant, new start

Back in 2024, where a new tenant joins the premises: the contemporary art gallery Arusha Gallery. Full of ambition, the structure wishes to breathe new life into the building by revitalizing the space. To do this, she will draw inspiration from local medicinal legends, particularly from the neighboring town of Myddfai where the work of its doctors with plants dates back to the 13th century. This knowledge would have been transmitted from generation to generation until the 18th century, according to the gallery.

It is therefore not surprising that the program offered is centered on the world of plants with, among other things, courses, exhibitions, lectures and workshops designed to “inspire our spiritual relationship with plants as healers and teachers”. The opening of the space is scheduled for June 21, 2025 and as King Charles III is a fervent defender of alternative medicine, it is very likely that he will appreciate this project. According to The Mirrorhe would also have combined his chemotherapy with alternative therapies.
