Starting the year with sweetness and romance is a great promise! It’s the one from the movie Love in the present by John Crowley, showing in cinemas. A comedy as romantic as it is dramatic which traces the love story of Almut and Tobias. Performed by Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield who are there troubling with emotions and authenticity.

A convincing duo

If it is a film that we have already seen in terms of storyline, it is in its temporality that it differs, using the comings and goings in time, without really warning or situating the viewer. Through this journey to the heart of their story, we relive the meeting, the intensity of the beginnings, the fusion that seals a couple, the differences, the first fights, here the illness. Classico classic you say? Yes, but this film emanates a naturalness and warmth that goes well beyond the melodrama it imposes. At a time when we are talking about deconstruction and understanding others, we are witnessing here the daily life of a “team” which ignores its differences to move forward and compose.

Andrew Garfield est upsetting in this role, the introvert he plays becomes the extrovert she needs, and there is something joyful in watching them. Melancholy becomes a spark as the chronologies collide. Proof that love can be a tool of transmission and abandonment, a feeling that must be experienced fully to be alive.

The blue flower that I am loved it!
