More than 1,300 films in competition at FESPACO

“African cinema and cultural identities” is the central theme of the 2025 edition of Fespaco. Four innovations were unveiled by the organizing committee.

This involves the institution of several distinctions, including the “Thomas Sankara Prize for Pan-Africanism”, which will be supported by the Burkinabe State, and the “public prize” offered by Radiotélévision du Burkina Faso.

“We must also include, among the innovations of the 2025 edition, the Critics’ Week and the permanent exhibition on the ideas of inspiring personalities of African cinemas,” said the general delegate of Fespaco, Alex Moussa Sawadogo .

Furthermore, this edition recorded a total of 1,351 films for the official competition, announced the National Organizing Committee of this festival.

Created in 1969, FESPACO aims to be a platform for the promotion of African cinema and television, also facilitating dialogue and exchanges between African cinema professionals and those around the world. It offers an official competition divided into several sections, including feature films, short films, documentaries, and film school films.

The festival not only provides visibility to African films but also helps to stimulate the continent’s film production.
On the program: screenings, workshops, conferences, and professional meeting spaces for participants.

Chad is the guest country of honor at Fespaco 2025.
