Faced with winter depression, the RTS schedule “The positive month” – rts.ch

Geneva, January 9, 2025 – From Sunday January 12, around fifty inspiring programs will be offered over a month to compensate for the emotional downfall after the Holidays, the effects of the lack of light during the months of January and February as well as tense world news.

The third Monday in January, aka the Blue Mondayis considered the most depressing day of the year, fueled by a lack of light and the emotional slump after the holidays. Faced with this spleen winter, the RTS puts on the agenda The positive montha concept bringing together documentaries, series, films, musical tracks and radio show topics chosen for their uplifting nature, offering a luminous perception of the future, the world and ourselves. This often unique and surprising offer will warm up French-speaking households from Sunday January 12 to Sunday February 9 on RTS 1, RTS 2, RTS Première, RTS Espace 2 and the Play RTS app.

“Deliberately directing our gaze towards positive stories is part of the idea that the way the media reports the reality of the world influences our state of mind and conditions the path we take collectively. Changing the way we tell stories the present with inspiring and positive stories, it gives us a little confidence, hope and courage to help us face the challenges of our time”, explains Steven Artels, co-head of the Documentary Unit of the RTS.

Among the thirty documentaries that will be broadcast in this framework that RTS is testing for the first time:

  • My friend the whale (January 18, on RTS 1): the extraordinary story of a man and his affectionate bond with a female sperm whale.

  • A fragile happiness (January 19, on RTS 2): a moving documentary on the quest strewn with obstacles for an extraordinary existence. Grand Jury Prize 2024 at Sundance.

  • Ask Doctor Ruth (February 5, on RTS 1), the famous sex therapist, who bares herself, has lost none of her verve, her humor, her enthusiasm and her commitment.
