“With 18 of the 20 best album sales of 2024, the public favors artist projects produced in France – and singing in French – all generations and all musical styles combined, with a special mention for rap which dominates the top of this ranking,” summarized Snep in a press release.
Werenoi confirms his dazzling success at the head of this Top albums, carried by “Pyramid 2” but also “Carré”, an opus awarded a Flame in April. For its part, PLK takes second place in the ranking thanks to “Room 140”a dense mixtape in three parts.
The third step goes to Indochina. The pop rock group led by Nicola Sirkis returns strong with its double album « Babylon Babylon »which he will defend during a tour from the end of January.
-Women, largely absent from the list
Note that the “top albums” combine the physical sales of CDs and vinyls, those in download and streaming streams converted into sales equivalent.
The two Ile-de-France rappers once again dethrone the Marseille UFO Jul who, as in 2023, will not rise no higher than 10th place while he reached 6th position a year earlier.
Significantly absent from this list: the female artists who remain under-represented at the top of the ranking, despite the performances of Billie Eilish (4th), Zaho de Sagazan (6th) and superstar Taylor Swift (9th). In the Top 200, a broader picture of the musical landscape, “41 projects are female, or a little more than one album in five”, noted Snep, seeing an “encouraging development” calling for “to be strengthened”.
