The wait is over for fans of Dr. Stone. The fourth and final season of the anime, titled Science Futurebegins this January 9 on Crunchyroll, in a conclusion in three acts spread throughout 2025. Still produced by the TMS Entertainment studio (Detective Conan, Lupin the 3rd), this adaptation of the manga by Riichirô Inagaki and Boichi marks the climax of a series which seduced by its audacity and originality.
An extraordinary scientific journey
At the crossroads of science and survivalism, Dr. Stone immerses us in a world where humanity has been petrified by a mysterious light. Millennia later, Senku Ishigami, a young science prodigy, wakes up in this frozen universe. Driven by excessive ambition, he sets out to rebuild civilization starting from the Stone Age, with the help of allies like his childhood friend, Taiju.
Over the seasons, this scientific renaissance takes on the appearance of conquest. Senku confronts Tsukasa’s radical idealism (season 1, Stone World), then seals a fragile alliance after defeating him (season 2, Stone Wars).
Science Futurethe ultimate expedition
In the third season (New World), Senku and his team finally get closer to the mystery of petrification and its instigator, the “Why-Man”. Their quest leads them to Treasure Island, where they face a formidable adversary using the “Medusa”, a device capable of instant petrification. This strategic battle allows them to recover essential resources, strengthening their resolve to continue their mission.
Season 4 picks up where the previous one left off: the “science ship” sets sail for America to collect the materials necessary for their mission. This crossing promises to be full of challenges, with strategic disagreements between Senku and Ryusui, unexpected natural and scientific obstacles, and the Moon always in their sights. This final expedition could finally reveal the secrets of petrification and determine the future of humanity.
A shōnen that has become essential
Prepublished between 2017 and 2022 in the prestigious Weekly Shōnen Jump de Shueisha, Dr. Stone made a lasting impression with its daring mix of science, adventure and survival. With 27 volumes and more than 3 million copies sold (in 2020), it has won over with its original approach and its ingenious characters. While this final season must lift the veil on the mysteries of the series, fans’ expectations are at their peak for a memorable conclusion.
