Prince Harry gets ‘happy birthday’ from family for first time since 2021

If you haven’t wished Prince Harry a happy 40th birthday yet, hurry up! Even his family has done it before you. And that’s no small feat since, according to British media, they haven’t wished the enfant terrible of the crown a “happy birthday” since 2021.

The first message was published early Sunday on the official account of the royal family. It ranks 3 on the open scale of warm relations: “We wish the Duke of Sussex a very happy birthday,” the message written on the X platform simply announces.

It was followed by another, equally terse message, published on the X account of Prince William and his wife, Princess Kate.

Three years of tension

It’s a small gesture, but a small gesture that counts. A helping hand, for the first time since Prince Harry and his wife Meghan claimed in a sensational interview with the American media pope, Oprah Winfrey, that a member of the royal family had wondered, when Meghan was pregnant, about the skin color their son Archie would have.

Soon after, Harry drove the point home with the publication of Spare (The Substitute), an autobiography that is very critical of the royal family. The last family meetings are also starting to date: the last time Harry was seen with his brother William was in September 2022, for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. As for his father, Charles III, he saw him again very briefly last February when he was announced to have cancer.

Prince Harry is celebrating his birthday this Sunday in California with his two children and his wife Meghan. The couple has been living there since 2020, looking for peace and quiet. Maybe they will finally find some royal peace there.
