Hard blow in the world of drag queens. One of their queens, The Vivienne, died at the age of 32. The artist won the first season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK” in 2019. It was his agent, Simon Jones, who announced his disappearance on Instagram, Sunday January 5, 2025. “It is with immense sadness that we announce that our beloved James Lee Williams – The Vivienne – passed away this weekend. James was an incredibly loved, warm and extraordinary person.” The cause of death has not been revealed.

A little later in the day, the production of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” also paid tribute to the Welsh drag queen on the social network: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of The Vivienne. His talent, humor and dedication to the art of drag were inspiring. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on as an example of creativity and authenticity.” For her part, the queen of French drag Nicky Doll, who gave us an interview in 2024, also expressed her sadness. “We lost one of our own today. Shine Viv, we miss you already,” she wrote on Instagram.

The Vivienne chose her stage name in reference to the famous British stylist Vivienne Westwood. In addition to being the winner of “Drag Race UK,” she was part of the cast of the “All Stars” season of the program, in 2022. James Lee Williams was openly gay and had been married to David Ludford since December 15 2019.
