Elton John poked fun at his diminished vision as he presented an award at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
The 77-year-old singer lost the sight in his right eye after contracting an infection last summer and later revealed he was unable to “see” previews of the Devil Wears Prada show: The Musical”, for which he wrote the lyrics, and that this incident had prevented him from working since.
On Sunday, Elton was tasked with presenting the award for Best Original Soundtrack alongside Brandi Carlile showing that he decided to laugh about it.
He said: “There have been lots of stories about my eyesight receding, and I just want to reassure everyone that it’s not as bad as it seems, I’m very happy to being here with my co-host, Rihanna.”
Elton revealed in September that he spent the summer battling the infection and while he is hopeful he will be able to see properly again, he admitted the healing process is slow.
He told “Good Morning America”: “I haven’t seen anything for four months now. My left eye isn’t working very well. There is hope and encouragement that it will be okay better, but I’m a bit stuck at the moment.”
