Cinemas of Africa Lausanne: a call for films open to African filmmakers

Registrations for the Lausanne Cinemas of Africa festival can be done via the site until March 15. The call for films is open to all genres of films: fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, virtual realities. There will be no competition or prizes to be awarded.

Filmmakers are invited to complete a registration form online and send a viewing copy of the film, preferably an H.264 (vimeo) link, indicating available dates before the deadline. Registration is free.

These short, medium and feature films must have Africa as their subject, produced in January 2023. The images must have professional technical quality, full HD image format (1920 x1080, 25 progressive, respect for audio levels). The artistic quality of the image must be respected. Films whose language is not French must be subtitled in French or English. These should never be shown on television or posted on social media.

The ideal video format is H.264 (example: vimeo/wetransfer link downloadable in 1080p) or ProRes. Blu-ray disc accepted as well as DCP format. However, the digital beta format is not accepted.

Audio format: 48Khz/16bits original version with French subtitles in “srt” format. If the film does not have French subtitles, an “srt” file of the English subtitles is required and the translation costs will be deducted from the screening rights.

Once the film has been selected, a final selection notice (with the screening agreement to be returned and signed) is sent by email to the production and the filmmaker at the end of May 2025, screening copies must arrive no later than August 1, 2025.

For the presentation and promotion of the film on different media (web and printed program), the following material must be sent (by email or Wetransfer) after receipt of the notice of selection from the filmmaker, must provide at least three photos from the film (digital images, 300 DPI, JPG), the film poster (in PDF and JPG), a link to the film trailer available for streaming (on Vimeo, YouTube, Dailymotion, etc.), posters, flyers and other promotional materials.

The 19e edition of the Lausanne Cinemas of Africa festival will take place from August 14 to 17, 2025, in Switzerland. EIle offers original programming of films from the African continent. The festival works to promote and disseminate African cinema, support filmmakers and raise public awareness while maintaining a dimension of cultural and friendly entertainment.
