Firefighters from Vaud and Lausanne will soon be able to train in the most advanced training center in Switzerland. Ten years after its inauguration, the Rama technical platform, located in Montheron, will undergo a third extension by next fall. The latest modernization, which included among other things a two-story maze training trackdate 2021.

Called “Rama III”, the project plans to add eight additional “progression boxes” for a total surface area of 118 m². The new infrastructure will allow firefighters to directly extinguish the flames, which is not possible with the current container. The cost of the installation is estimated at 1.5 million francs, and will be mainly borne by the ECA. As co-owner of the center, the City of Lausanne will contribute 342,500 francs.

“Vary the scenarios”

This new extension “will make it possible to introduce new tactical modules, vary training scenarios, and increase the level of preparation of firefighters,” specify the two partners in their press release. There will no longer be any need to “relocate certain training to other centers in Switzerland or abroad”. The site, which already hosts 960 firefighters each year, will therefore be able to train a larger number of fire fighters in the future.

According to Pierre-Antoine Hildbrand, Lausanne municipal officer in charge of Security, this “avant-garde infrastructure” should allow the center to consolidate its status as a “national reference”. For Laurent Fankhauser, head of the Fire Defense and Rescue Division on the ECA Management Committee, this development will “not only guarantee training ever closer to operational reality, but also strengthen the safety of firefighters and, in fine, that of the population.
