1Hypermarkets changing brands
We’re used to cells changing brands in the Lorient region, but a hypermarket is unprecedented! Like everywhere in France, the Géant Casino in the Pays de Lorient closed their doors in 2024. They reopened under the Carrefour brand, in Lanester, on May 17 and Intermarché, in Lorient, on July 22. For Géant Casino customers, hope was high: “See prices drop!” » and find life again because the Saint-Etienne brand had lost many customers in the Lorient region “it was deserted”. There were also numerous customers at the opening of the Carrefour de Lanester for prices announced to be 17% cheaper. So, verdict?
2 A third Action in the Pays de Lorient
Action, B & M, Tedi, Stockomani, Gifi, hard discount brands have multiplied in recent years in the Lorient region. 2024 was particularly busy with the opening of a third Action store, on July 27 in Lanester, in place of Fête ci Fête ça after those in Lorient and Hennebont. The Dutch group has become the favorite store of the French. The people of Lorient also love it: “we leave with lots of stuff. Every time we come, we inevitably find something.”
3 Things have changed (a lot) in restaurants
We learned on December 20, 2024, the restaurant 127, by Amphi, heir to the famous restaurant L’Amphitryon which once had two stars, will close its doors on December 28. In 2024, we also learned of the closure, in 2025, of the starred restaurant Sources, in Lorient. But Nicolas Le Tirrand is not going very far since he is preparing a new project at the hotel-restaurant Les Mouettes, in Larmor-Plage. The good restaurant Le Belvédère, in Lorient, also closed on December 18 to make way for a bar. The Relais de la Perrière, in financial difficulty, had to close its kitchens like Fish, rue du Port in Lorient. The good news of the year is the obtaining of the star for the Lorient Louise restaurants.
4 Nayel changes hands
The Nayel shopping center, built 16 years ago in Lorient, has had new owners since last October. The company MTV Capital bought the establishment from AEW. The new owners, a trio who buy “shopping centers with potential” already have ideas for the Nayel center which has never found its audience, “but the fundamentals are there”. Work should begin in 2025, starting with the “entrance to La Poste” part to “give an immediate boost to the shopping center”.
5 A commercial vacancy that explodes
The lesson of 2024 is unfortunately the significant increase in commercial vacancy which has almost doubled, from 3.7 to 6.3%. With the departure of national brands like Bodyshop and Burton which have left a void in the city center. But we have to look at the positive, stores are opening too! Saga is back in Lorient, rue de la Patrie; the Klo cell, in Kerulvé, left empty for two years, found a buyer with Grand Frais which delighted the customers, less the elected officials… Julie and Jérôme Fromaget opened, in the K2 shopping center, their second clothing store for woman (the first is in Quimperlé), Tamashop. We wish them as much success as Véronique Sramota, third of the name, to run Le Tigre Royal, created in Lorient by her grandfather in 1885. The oldest store in Lorient will close its doors at the beginning of February. In 2024, Lorient saw the arrival of a new entertainment concept with Quiz Room,
two ceramic cafés, and one more project for the dynamic integration association Optim’Ism which is opening a bar restaurant, L’Embarcadère, in place of Café Oz, boulevard Franchet-Desperey. What does 2025 have in store for us?
