“Squid Game” back on Netflix: what to expect from this season 2?

Announced at the end of 2021, season 2 of “Squid Game” was however only made official by Netflix on June 12, 2022. Since then, little information has circulated. However, several trailers have been released in recent weeks, disseminating clues that were immediately spotted, analyzed and explained by numerous forums on the Internet and social networks.

Some previews of the first episode, entitled “Bread and games of chance”, including one at the Grand Rex in on December 10, offered a few days after a giant 1, 2, 3 sun on the Champs-Élysées and at which we were able to witness, however, allow us to give an idea of what this second salvo will aim towards, clearly still as lively as the previous one.

Attention ! We've seen the first four episodes, but segments 2, 3 and 4 remain under critical embargo, so we can't reveal anything about them here. On the other hand, go to Leparisien.fr this Thursday morning at 9 a.m. to find out more, once the embargo is lifted!

What is certain is that, like its older sister, season 2 will not do any favors. On December 9, during a press conference, Hwang Dong-hyeok was bitter: “It is with a heavy heart that I think that watching season 2 of Squid Game won’t be much different from watching the news.” Allusion to the political imbroglio in which his country has been mired for several weeks, after the surprise declaration of martial law by a President of the Republic who has since been dismissed, not without violence.

The heroes of season 1 return

Several months ago, he already warned: “Today, divisive conflicts are endemic”, citing “territorial issues like the Russo-Ukrainian war, religious conflicts in the Middle East, divisions within Korea of the South and conflicts between men and women…”

More concretely, we already know that two of the heroes of season 1 are back. Seong Gi-hun (number 456), played by Lee Jung-jae, who we quickly understand has only one goal, to return to the Squid Game in order to dynamite it from the inside. And the policeman Hwang Jun-ho, played by Wi-Ha-joon, who had managed to infiltrate the island where the death games take place, before being shot down by his own brother, the big man in head of the operation.

More surprising, the reappearance of a completely secondary character in the previous parts, an old friend of Seong Gi-hun, who obviously will also participate in the tests. Viewing the trailers also allows us to see that among the new candidates will be a mother and her son, and a separated couple. As well as a very likely villain, who already excites fans: a competitor with purple hair, played by the singer and rapper TOP, from the group BigBang. Without forgetting the game's recruiter, very present in the first episode, which he concludes in a masterful scene.

« Squid Game », South Korean series by Hwang Dong-hyeok. Starting this Thursday, December 26 on Netflix.
