“An early Christmas present”, in Pluguffan, this farmer discovers an illegal dump of waste on his field

A gift he would have done without. Monday December 23, 2024, while taking manure to his field in Pluguffan, Jean-Luc Plouhinec has the unpleasant surprise of coming across a pile of waste left at the entrance to his field. “There are plasterboards, wood, glass wool, brushes, paint, a water heater…” notes the farmer. “The rubbish was not so wet, it must have been deposited this weekend or at the end of last week,” estimates the Pluguffanais resident since 2007 in the town.

Waste residues that risk being ingested by cows

The farmer then publishes the photos of the crime on Facebook. “What a pleasure to receive your Christmas present early,” he wrote. This is not the first time that waste has been dumped on his field, which will be used to feed his flock. A little over a year ago, green waste was deposited there. “But it’s less dangerous than all that renovation equipment.” When we make hay, we use a cutter bar. If there are small pieces of aluminum left, there is a risk of crushing them and turning them into small, very sharp pieces, which will be ingested by my cows later,” points out the farmer. “It can perforate their intestines!” “.

Up to €75,000 fine

With the help of several colleagues, Jean-Luc will sort and take the trash left on December 26 to the recycling center. “I thought I would have peace over Christmas and New Years, with the family, but now I’m going to have to work a little more! » The website of the Ministry of the Interior recalls that a perpetrator of illegal dumping risks up to €75,000 in fines and imprisonment. The mayor of the municipality also has the capacity to order the payment of a fine of up to €15,000.
