Alfa Anderson, singer of Chic and the hit “Le Freak”, has died at the age of 78

Sad news for disco fans: American Alfa Anderson, who was one of the lead singers of the group Chic in the 1970s – and the voice of the hit Le Freak –died on December 17, 2024 at the age of 78, Nile Rodgers, founder of the group, announced on Instagram.

The guitarist, songwriter and producer illustrated his post with several photos of the deceased which appear on the song At last i’m freesoberly paying tribute to him in the caption of “Thank you for everything”.

Singer of Chic from 1978, Alfa Anderson had notably used her voice on the hits Le Freak, Good Times, Everybody Dance et I Want Your Love. But she also got noticed by appearing on the film's soundtrack The Wizproduced by Quincy Jones, and in which Diana Ross and Michael Jackson played (and sang).

The singer had also collaborated with Sister Sledge, Johnny Mathis and Diana Ross on records produced by Nile Rodgers, recalls BFMTV. When the Chic adventure ended in 1983, she devoted herself to her solo career, singing in particular with Mick Jagger. She had released an album, From My Heartin 2017.
