290 days of filming in the department in 2024

200 million euros: this is the estimated amount – by the Hautes-Alpes Development Agency – of the economic impact of the 290 days of filming recorded in the department in 2024. The exceptional landscapes of 05 attract producers looking for large natural spaces. Among the feature films, The Engulfed by Louise Hemon filmed in Clarée and Vallouise, and The ice tower by Lucile Hadzihalilovic with Marion Cotillard in La Grave, will be in theaters in 2025. Béatrice Dalle marked the last days of the year on the set of Laurent in the wind aux Orres, a dramatic comedy directed by Anton Balekdjian.

40 to 50 people per film crew: the local economy benefits

On the television side, there are around ten programs. Among them: two episodes of the series Alex Hugo were filmed in Briançonnais, and several documentaries, such as Ibex, the watchman of the mountains broadcast on 5, or All Saints' Day red retracing the Algerian war, filmed at the Col de l'Izoard.

Filming represents a major economic issue for the Paca region, second in France in number of production days. A film team mobilizes on average 40 to 50 people to be housed and fed on site, generating direct benefits for the local economy.

The next two years look promising cinematographically, with filming already in preparation, such as that of Jean Valjean by Éric Besnard, scheduled for January. The producers of two other feature films are in contact with the Development Agency, and have launched scouting for future filming.

The Southern Alps thus reinforce their attractiveness: according to a study by the National Cinema Center, one in four French people decide to visit a region following the discovery of its landscapes in a film or series.
