NÎMES With the cube, the call of the sea for the holidays

The show “CUbo, the call of the sea” by Eventi Verticali and Aérosculpture took place in front of the Saint Baudile church, Place Gabriel-Péri.

This show is the fruit of the work and union of two companies. Eventi Vertical and Aerosculpture. The proposal? An atypical painting composed of a suspended three-dimensional scene with dancers moving inside a gigantic cube!

But everything could have been canceled… During the night, a fire broke out on the Italian boat which should have shipped the sets from Genoa, but a solution was found and the cube arrived. Also arriving well, the large crane was in place to hoist cube and dancers into the festive sky of Nîmes, more than 25 meters from the ground.

The lights, characters and shadows blend into a unique luminous atmosphere accompanied by smoke and flames… The characters, suspended in the sky, dance, jump, run and play. A timeless performance not to be missed!

Cubo? It is a three-dimensional suspended scene. It is a play of bodies, lights and shadows which merge in the chromatic modulations of the structure.

Lights and color change the appearance of the CUbo and its animation according to the interpretation of the artists who inhabit both the exterior vertical walls and the interior spaces.

The CUbo presents itself to the public in several outfits, firstly, it is covered by a semi-transparent veil which the artists break by dropping it on the ground and leaving the cube bare.

The fires and smoke increase the volume of the CUbo and four white canvases unfold and thus paint the walls with colors and shapes created by the shadows.

To guide this constantly changing kaleidoscope of shapes and colors, a team of artists and dancers embark on daring ventures such as bungee throwing from inside the cube towards the gaze of an ecstatic audience.

EVenti Verticali is an Italian amateur cultural and recreational sports association which pursues the objective of promoting vertical theater through the creation of courses and exhibitions of different artistic and sporting disciplines that revolve around the world of dance and “vertical” .

In ten years of activity, the association has offered its members or members of other associations numerous courses in vertical dance, physical theater, acrobatics, clowning, but also sport climbing and, with particular success in recent years , the “Torrentismo”.

Activities closely related to verticality are intended to confront and overcome the fear of heights, to gain confidence in materials and techniques, to learn operations at altitude with particular attention to rescue maneuvers.

Aérosculpture is an association from (La Roque-sur-Cèze).

This December 21, the company had three dates to perform in , and therefore in Nîmes. In the city of Antoninus, the troupe had come to join forces with the Italians of Eventi Verticali to ensure a memorable show. With CUbo, Aérosculpture has chosen to link its “Call of the Sea” and its three seagulls.

The Call of the Sea is the story of our way of being together, of dispersing ourselves and then finding ourselves again. The gentle and delicate evolution of these large, luminous birds tells of our ability to find a place among our fellow human beings while there is an incessant call, the desire to look elsewhere, the desire to leave. Three luminous aerostatic puppets with a wingspan of 10 meters each. A musical show, without text, at night obviously and lasting 30 minutes.

Looking for every possible way to fly, here is a new proposition: train a giant bird to carry us through the air.

Six birds fly in a squadron, follow each other, separate then come together to form a big V and resume their migration.

The puppeteers try to tame their unpredictable creatures. When night comes, the seagulls light up, successively shining from one wing to the other. They seem to move in jerks as fast as light then remain lit to present an aerial ballet.

Created in June 2018, the show is known and recognized, especially in the region, but for some, it is always a pleasure to see these perched Gardois at work.

Next festivity in Nîmes, the Great Christmas Parade which will take place on Tuesday December 24 at 6 p.m. Made up of six floats and led by more than 120 dancers and extras, wanders through the streets of l'Écusson and offers you a magical journey with reindeer, elves and Santa Claus around the city on Christmas Eve.

The route? Departure from the Musée de la Romanité, boulevard Victor-Hugo, rue Général Perrier, boulevard Amiral Courbet then, finally, arrival boulevard de la Libération.
