When the Saint-Baudile church becomes a celestial stage: “Cubo, the call of the sea” amazed Nîmes

Between dizzying acrobatics, light shows and a cube suspended 50 meters from the ground, the Italian company Eventi Verticali offered the public a moment of escape.

On this Saturday, December 21, on the square in front of the Saint-Baudile church, the magic took flight – literally. At 6 p.m., the Italian company Eventi Verticali & Aérosculpture offered the Nîmes public an extraordinary show, combining aerial dance, dizzying acrobatics and a hanging cube that defied the imagination.

Between poetry and acrobatics

Everything starts slowly: a luminous atmosphere, dancing shapes projected onto the square, like shadows in search of freedom. Then, without warning, these forms rise and transform into birds of light, hovering above the spectators gathered on the church square and beyond. This ethereal ballet gives way to a new scene: two dancers rise into the sky, suspended from ropes and defying the void, soon joined by two other acrobats. Heads down, feet floating in nothingness.

The highlight of the show comes with the elevation of the famous cube. This three-dimensional metal structure, inhabited by the dancers, seems to float to the top of the church. The acrobats, heedless of vertigo, climb, dance and play with the void, triggering loud applause with each new feat. And when flames emerge from the structure suspended nearly 50 meters from the ground, a real clamor goes through the crowd.

A grand finale

For the grand finale, the four artists wrap themselves in aerial sheets, giving a final touch of poetry to their performance. Fireworks burst from the cube, lighting up the night and leaving young and old alike amazed. “I forgot it was cold”smiles Martin, who came with his parents.

There was no question of feeling dizzy…

It is 6:45 p.m., the square is slowly emptying, but everyone leaves with their eyes full of stars. “It was truly incredible”confides Mathilde, holding her young son Léo in her arms and who, without a doubt, has not lost a beat either.
