He lives from his two passions, aviation and illusion. A cocktail that attracts crowds to all its performances.
Originally from Blois, Gaël known as the “pilot of illusion” returns for his new show “Mirage”, an interactive show which will sometimes offer spectacular tricks, sometimes public participation. A show which will be on stage at the Zénith d’Orléans (Loiret) Saturday January 25, 2025.
Actu : Aviation and magic, two very distant passions. How did you come up with the idea of combining them?
Gael: In reality, the magic came when I was 12 years old. It came very early when I discovered magic kits in the newsagent. It was called “The Art of Magic.” And the passion for aviation came at the same time. I went to air shows near Orléans, I made paper planes and so on. Everything came together at the same time and finally I had the chance to meet a magician, very well known at the time, who was performing in Las Vegas and who had the same passions as me, aviation and magic. So I collaborated with him to put together the disappearance of a plane tour, almost hand in hand.
The illusion also requires guinea pigs that you look for in the audience. Is this an important aspect for the progress of the show?
Actu : I wanted the show to be participatory and interactive. For me, I still see it on my scale during company evenings or seminars, I quickly realize that people love to see what is happening before their eyes. For a show like this, I know full well that the public needs us to break down the barrier of a large venue. To tell you, each spectator will receive a snack bag with a cake produced by Saint-Michel because I am also talking about my childhood, there will also be tricks with a cell phone, I will pick up a married couple, two single people in the room… I really want to highlight interactivity.
A family show, it will also be aimed at children. How will they participate?
Actu : Typically, a child will be invited on stage and will travel in a space shuttle. In this part of the show, I also talk about a ride that had a big impact on me. The show will really be peppered with my childhood memories. So it’s a whole!
Making a plane disappear is a bit like making your childhood dream come true. For this tour, how did you manage to have an airplane, in this case a Jet, on stage?
Actu : It was the first time for the Air Force that a plane was entrusted to a civilian for a show, so it took a lot of time and perseverance, because we are still talking about a plane that is an emblem of France. An Alpha Jet from the Patrouille de France! So to show them the viability of the project, I presented them with a beta version of the show. We have an agreement that binds us until 2029 but things seem to be going well.
And does having your own plane tempt you?
Actu : Ah, it's true that I have very little time to devote myself to it but I already have to get my private aviator diploma, but I'm not saying that one day I won't do it, quite the contrary. As I often say, I have always known how to keep my feet on the ground but also in the air. I have already achieved many of my dreams but the dream of being able to fly, I still have it and I will do it one day.
