This is news that has moved France. On June 11, Thomas Dutronc announced on his Instagram account the death of his mother, the singer Françoise Hardy at the age of 80. He had posted a photo of the two of them, when he was very young, soberly and sadly titled “Maman est parti”. She had been battling pharyngeal cancer for several years and had even asked Emmanuel Macron to look into the right to die with dignity. Interviewed by Le Parisien on Monday, September 9, 2024, Thomas Dutronc had agreed to make some moving confidences about the last moments they shared: “She had hearing problems recently. I especially wanted to finish a beautiful record for her. I know that she would have liked some songs, others less or that she would have liked later”. “One evening in Châtellerault, after a concert, she sent me her last text message around 1am, three weeks before her death: ‘I love you more than anything’. I replied: ‘Me too, my dear mum’ and I sent her photos of me as a baby with her. Then I received another message: ‘I’m dying’. I was panicked at the idea of not seeing her again, that she would die during the night.”
Thomas Dutronc then said he was very grateful to have been able to say goodbye to her: “I told her several times that she didn’t have to worry about me, that I loved her. She had trouble speaking but she still made us laugh. She fought a lot. She (…)
