The Rockers have heart at the Secret Place, we go to the Moon at the Opéra Comédie, we watch Nosferatu in preview, we follow a tough dance competition at Kiasma, and we attend a choir concert at home choirs: here are five events to experience from Friday December 20 to Sunday December 22.
Rockers have heart
The weekend before Christmas, the rockers show they have big hearts at the Secret Place. Several artists from the rock scene play for the benefit of underprivileged children. The idea is simple. To experience the concerts, you must come with a new toy, bearing in mind that its price must exceed €10. Generosity is required. All these beautiful gifts brought by the public will then be distributed to children aged 0 to 14 hospitalized in the pediatric department of Montpellier University Hospital. The first event of this magnitude took place in Nantes in 1988 at the instigation of the mother of Elmer Food Beat guitarist and Stéphane Cluzeau. At the Secret Place, this is already the 10th edition that crazy energy has been spent for this solidarity Christmas.
Two evenings are offered for two atmospheres where the guitar is king. Friday from 7 p.m. is “Metalheads Have Heart” evening. On the program are the groups Voidheart, Supplices, Ocean Avenue, The Metallics, Friends of Misery, and finally a DJ.
Saturday at 7 p.m., it’s the rockers who will have heart. The vocals and guitar riffs will change. On the menu for the evening: Garbage Guerilla, Dig up the 90’s, Boomerang, Bad Reputation, Elvis Show and once again, a DJ to finish off the fun.
Nosferatu preview
There are Christmas films that highlight family values, stories for young people or romantic comedies. But some distributors also choose this period to release films that take the opposite view. This is the case with Nosferatu. This film, classified as horror-horror (yes, there is a vampire insensitive to Christmas sirens), is by Robert Eggers, one of the masters of the genre (The Lighthouse, The Witch). This is why it is eagerly awaited. It is also because it is the remake of one of the greatest classics of horror cinema, Nosferatu, directed in 1922 by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau which scared the hell out of a host of spectators.
The trip to the Moon
Last weekend to experience a trip to the Moon inspired by Jules Verne and set to music by Jacques Hoffenbach at the end of the 19th century. The director Olivier Fredj had to tighten up the original work but retained what makes it all its musical and narrative flavor. If the sets are rather refined, the soloists, choristers and dancers wear costumes that are, to say the least, extravagant. Everything contributes to exoticism, fantasy, dreams and fun. A magical opera-bouffe brought together in a very short time (2 hours) which can delight those who are not used to seeing lyrical works.
c2ladanse international competition montpellier occitanie
Here we go again for the C2LADANSE international competition. An event open to young dancers aged 8 to 22, regardless of their nationality, as long as they intensely practice classical, contemporary or modern-jazz dance. Before the age of 14, dancers are judged on a single aesthetic, but beyond that, they are evaluated in classical but also in modern-jazz or contemporary. These are the technical qualities and artistic interpretation which are sought and judged by the jurors. The weekend is divided into two parts. Saturday is dedicated to the elimination rounds and Sunday is the final with the winners. For the closing, two young companies are invited to present their work, as well as a company of dancers with disabilities.
Concert de Noël de Gospelize It Project
Christmas is a tune from Tino Rossi or Mariah Carey that sticks in our heads, but also why not a gospel atmosphere in a church. The Gospelize It Project choir led by singer Emma Lamadji presents its special holiday concert called “In Complete Intimacy”. The choir’s soloists are highlighted through a retrospective of all the choir’s Christmas performances. They also reveal their history and “their artistic and human subtleties”.
Saturday December 21 at 9 p.m. Choir House, 1 Place Albert 1er, Montpellier. Price: €15. Free for children under 12.
