Will The Witcher 4 be released on Xbox Series X|S and PS5? CD Projekt sows doubt | Xbox

The trailer for The Witcher 4 shown during the Game Awards ceremony made a strong impression on players, particularly with the visual quality highlighted. While the trailer was made using an unannounced Nvidia RTX graphics card, we even wonder if the game will be released on this generation of consoles, and CD Projekt does not necessarily seem decided to get too involved on the subject.

The Witcher 4 sur Xbox Series X|S et PS5 ?

In a recent interview, Eurogamer asked game director Sebastian Kalemba if the studio could “reassure” console owners that the game could be run, including whether it could run on an Xbox Series S. .

The response from the person concerned was quite evasive since he first stated that this trailer did not mark the launch of massive marketing for the game, thus strongly suggesting what we were talking about recently, namely that the game is probably not ready for release and could even be planned for the next generation of consoles.

You know, first of all, it’s good to say that this is not some kind of “start of marketing” campaign. First of all, we wanted to show and share with the world that: Ciri is the main protagonist, it’s The Witcher 4, she’s mutated and she’s definitely on the Path, right?

The rest of his response also goes in this direction since the Game Director was rather vague on the targeted platforms, simply stating that the studio wanted to “support all platforms” then mentioning the PC, “Xbox and Sony”, without more details.

The second thing is, yes, we’re working on a new engine right now, with the engineers at Epic, and there’s great synergy and collaboration between us. We are currently working on Unreal Engine 5 and our custom version. Obviously we want to support all platforms – that’s PC, Xbox and Sony, right? – but I cannot, for the moment, give you more details on this subject.

Do not relive the release of Cyberpunk 2077

With its more than cautious statements, it goes without saying that CD Projekt RED wants to avoid as much as possible reliving the catastrophic launch of Cyberpunk 2077, largely impacted by lagging Xbox One and PS4 versions.

A few weeks ago, the studio also claimed to have learned lessons from this failed release, explaining that it was now also working on the console versions of its games in parallel with the PC, in order to ensure constant evolution of development on all platforms.

This is part of our process; we do console assessments to know exactly where we stand on all platforms, [y compris] the lowest platform we have, rather than saying: “the PC version is good, we can continue”

It seems today more than ever that The Witcher 4 could simply not be released on Xbox Series

It must be said that the appetite for the Unreal Engine 5 and the ambitions of CD Projekt seem to be more in line with machines more powerful than current consoles, but we will have to wait before being sure.
