Gan Assurances Trophy: in the ladies’ +35 category, Lespinasse wins a second consecutive title

the essential
Titled last year in the R2 division, the Lespinasse players this time won the prize, at the beginning of the month, in R1B. And once again, the final victory was obtained against UA .

“We played against our opponents on a single pitch and without heating. We left at 7:30 in the morning and finished in the early evening. It’s a long time (laughing). » On Sunday December 8, the Lespinasse women’s team will not soon forget it.

After their coronation last season in the R2 division of the Gan Assurances Trophy (team event for all affiliated clubs in the Pyrenees zone of the Ligue ), the Lespinassoises signed the double at the higher level, in R1B, with in passing reunion against the UA Tarbes club and an identical score (3 points to 2). “There were only two chickens on the starting line. And the first in the group got their ticket to the final,” continues captain Laure Girard.

Trailing 2-1 after singles

However, everything started badly at the beginning of October, with an opening defeat against Plaisance (3-2). A meeting where the Plaisançoises won all three singles. But subsequently, the Haut-Garonnaises had three successes in front of Puygouzon (5-0), (4-1) and Onet-le-Château (4-1).

For the reunion in the final, the Tarbaises had completed the preliminary phase with a faultless record (5V). And at the end of the three singles, the Lespinassoises were off to a bad start. “We are down 2-1. Everything therefore came down to the decisive double,” underlines Laure Girard.

A double paying tactic

At the finish, the title was won with a score of 7-5, 6-2. “We should have closed things faster in this doubles because we took the lead 5 games to 1 in the first set. Nevertheless, the result is logical. We also reversed sides for our two players and this tactic paid off,” comments the captain, who has been able to count, since the preliminary phase, on Corinne Alie, Séverine Monzauge, Magali Koechlin, Sophie Gérard, Jennifer Audu and Aurore Cuffel.

With this second consecutive coronation and the final lost by the II team at the Challenge Hermet (read above), the women of the Lespinasse club are ending the year well. “The club’s women’s teams will also be in the spotlight in January,” concludes Laure Girard, a delighted captain.
